University of Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin’s salary will roughly double to $1.4 million under a contract extension approved by the system’s board of trustees on Friday.
“This would be what the top coordinators would be making, and Lane has been very effective for us for the two years he has been here. We feel like this is very appropriate for what he should be making,” Athletics Director Bill Battle said.
Battle presented Kiffin’s contract and amended agreements for seven other coaches during a conference call on Friday.
The board approved an eight-month contract from July 1, 2016, to Feb. 28, 2017, for Kiffin, who was hired in 2014. Under his previous contract, he was paid $714,000 in annual base salary. Previously, Kiffin was also being paid by the University of Southern California, where he was the head coach before being fired in 2014. The payments from USC ended on June 30, Battle said.
New UA head baseball coach Greg Goff will receive an annual base salary of $265,000 and talent fee of $185,000 as part of a five-year contract, ending June 30, 2021.
The contract also includes clauses for a university-provided automobile or a stipend and incentives based on the team’s academic and athletic performances.
Goff will receive $10,000 for each year the team achieves a graduation rate that equals or exceed 85 percent based on the NCAA graduation success rate and the team’s academic progress rate score is above the NCAA defined score.
If the team under Goff wins the regular season Southeastern Conference Championship, he will receive a bonus equivalent to one month’s salary. For winning the SEC Tournament Championship or qualifying for the NCAA championship, he will receive a bonus of half a month’s salary. Goff would receive a bonus based on the team’s success in the NCAA tournament. For an appearance in the super regional, he would receive 75 percent of a month’s salary. He would receive a month’s base salary for a College World Series appearance and two month’s base salary for winning the series.
Goff would also receive one month’s base salary as a bonus for being names SEC Coach of the Year or National Coach of the Year.
Head track and field coach Dan Waters’ contract was extended by 2 years to June 30, 2019, and his annual base salary will increase by $20,000 to $185,000.
Head men's golf coach Jay Seawell's contract was extended by a year to June 30, 2021, and his annual base salary increased from $197,000 to $207,000 with a talent fee of $23,000.
Head women's golf coach Mic Potter's contract was extended by a year to June 30, 2021, and annual salary increased by $10,000 to $200,000 with a talent fee of $5,000.
Head men's tennis coach George Husack's contract was extended by a year to June, 30, 2018, and his annual base salary increased by $5,000 to $125,000.
Head women's tennis coach Jenny Mainz contract was also extended by one year to June 30, 2018. Her annual base salary of $140,000 remained unchanged under the new agreement.
Head softball coach Patrick Murphy's contract was extended by three years to June 30, 2021. His annual salary increased from $212,000 to $265,000 and his talent fee is set to incrementally increase from $40,000 to $50,000 by 2021.
Head rowing coach Larry Davis' contract was extended by a year to June 30, 2018, and his annual salary will increased to $90,000.
