Bo Scarbrough helped Alabama break an SEC record when he was selected by the Dallas Cowboys with the No. 236 pick overall in the seventh round of the NFL Draft on Sunday. The running back is Alabama’s 11th selection in this year’s draft, the most ever by one school in SEC history. Alabama had 10 selections in last year’s draft.

Scarbrough joins Minkah Fitzpatrick (No. 11, Miami Dolphins), Payne (No. 13, Washington Redskins), Rashaan Evans (No. 22, Tennessee Titans) Calvin Ridley (No. 26, Atlanta Falcons), Ronnie Harrison (No. 93, Jacksonville Jaguars), Da’Shawn Hand (No. 114, Detroit Lions), Anthony Averett (No. 118, Baltimore Ravens), JK Scott (No. 172, Green Bay Packers), Shaun Dion Hamilton (No. 197, Washington Redskins) and Bradley Bozeman (No. 215, Baltimore Ravens) in this year’s Alabama draft class.

Scarbrough finished second among Alabama’s running backs last season with 596 yards and eight touchdowns on 124 carries. However, the 6-foot-1, 228-pound running back is better remembered for his stellar junior sophomore season in 2016 that saw him rush for 454 yards and six touchdowns over his final five games before breaking his leg against Clemson in the national championship game.

The injury was one of several he has dealt with his career. Scarbrough broke his ankle during his freshman season of high school and tore his ACL toward the end of his sophomore year. He was then sidelined for a third straight season as a high-ankle sprain cut his junior year short. During his first semester at Alabama, he suffered another torn ACL in a spring scrimmage which limited him in his freshman season.

Coming off a full season last year, Scarbrough hopes his injury woes are behind him as he looks to carry over his physical running style to the next level. He has been compared to Titans running back and fellow Alabama teammate Derrick Henry and could end up as a steal for the Cowboys this late in the draft.
