How NFL.com graded Alabama's 2025 combine participants

The NFL Scouting Combine is underway in Indianapolis this week. Alabama will be represented by nine players, who will participate in on-field workouts and interviews with NFL teams over the next few days.

Heading into the combine, NFL.com came out with its initial grades for all of this year’s top draft prospects. The grades range from 5.5 to 8.0 with 5.5 being a “priority undrafted free-agents” to 8.0 being a “perfect prospect.” Here’s a full list of the grading scale.

8.0 — Perfect prospect

7.3-7.5 — Perennial All-Pro

7.0-7.1 — Pro Bowl talent

6.7-6.9 — Year 1 starter

6.5-6.6 — Boom or bust potential

6.40-6.49 — Will become good starter within two years

6.30-6.39 — Will eventually be plus starter

6.20-6.29 — Will eventually be average starter

6.10-6.19 — Good backup with the potential to develop into starter

6.0-6.09 — Traits or talent to be above-average backup

5.80-5.99 — Average backup or special-teamer

5.60-5.69 — Candidate for bottom of roster or practice squad

5.50-5.59 — Priority undrafted free agent

Here are the prospect grades for Alabama’s nine combine participants as well as NFL.com’s evaluations of their strengths and weaknesses.

Tyler Booker,  offensive lineman 

NFL.com prospect grade: 6.40 — Will become good starter within two years

Position rank: No. 5 offensive lineman

Strengths

— Prototypical size and girth with elite length and massive hands.

— Upper-body power and hip torque to turn defenders out of the gap.

— Has a feel for positioning and angles to wall-off blocks in space.

— Patient and controlled working up to second-level targets.

— Protects with good posture and smooth tempo in his mirror.

_Plays with great poise and recognition when twists and blitzes kick off.

— Able to uncoil lower half and set a sudden anchor in the pocket.

Weaknesses

— Approaches too many blocks with outside hands.

— Absorbs rushers instead of consistently punching them.

— Average foot speed to ride or redirect rushers on his edge.

—Below-average lateral quickness and range as a run blocker.

—Needs to run feet under hands for better sustain.

Jihaad Campbell, linebacker 

NFL.com prospect grade: 6.34 — Will eventually be a plus starter

Position rank: No. 3 linebacker

Strengths

— Prototypical height, weight and musculation.

— Impressive production in high-impact stat columns.

— Pursuit speed allows sideline-to-sideline workspace.

— Breaks down and mirrors backs as an open-field tackler.

— Has the burst and work-around ability to threaten as a rusher.

— Gains depth quickly from zone and can cover running backs.

Quick read-and-react to challenge the passing lane.

Weaknesses

— Lacks instincts and plays through a straw.

— Gets caught behind blocks and will lose contain.

— Catches contact more than he doles it out at the point.

— Needs to attack blocks and constrict his gap.

— Allows edge blockers to widen him off the spot.

Jalen Milroe, quarterback 

NFL.com prospect grade: 6.14 — Good backup with the potential to develop into starter

Position rank: No. 6 quarterback

Strengths

— Unflinching when he delivers throws in the face of imminent contact.

—Has NFL arm strength, delivering drive throws with velocity.

—Ball comes out in a split second if he needs it to.

—Accuracy improves when he minds his weight transfer.

—2023 tape shows a more consistent deep-ball passer.

—Good things happen as a passer when rolling out to his right.

—Finished career with 33 rushing TDs, including 20 in 2024.

—Back-breaking scrambler when defense loses lane integrity.

Weaknesses

— Threw five touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2024 SEC play.

—Hurried and lacking rhythm when working from the pocket.

—Processing and decision-making are troubling at times.

—Struggles to make anticipatory throws.

—Success rate plummets when forced to come off primary option.

— Fires hard-to-catch rockets at underneath targets.

—Sails deep-outs and forces crossing routes to break stride to catch it.

—Slow to feel mounting pressure and takes too many sacks.

—Inconsistent trajectory on intermediate and deep-touch throws.

Tim Smith, defensive tackle 

NFL.com prospect grade: 5.98— Average backup or special-teamer

Position rank: No. 25 defensive tackle

Strengths

— Gets off the snap and into contact with heavy hands.

— First-step quickness and footwork to beat reach blocks.

—Accurate hands key ability to post and set a firm edge.

—Runs through the gap door with a compact rip-slap move.

—Adequate stack-and-control as a two-gapper.

—Uses a walloping club move to soften the rush edge.

Weaknesses

— Plays his part but lacks dominant tape.

—Needs to play with better feel for down blocks.

—Average shed quickness to tackle his gap.

—Below-average foot quickness to attack rush edges.

Robbie Ouzts, tight end 

NFL.com prospect grade: 5.97 — Average backup or special-teamer

Position rank: No. 12 tight end

Strengths

— Excellent lean mass and muscular limbs.

— Fits up his block with leveraged hands and balanced base.

— Athletic ability to adjust and land as a move blocker.

— Makes good reads and decisions as a lead blocker.

— Seldom used as a pass catcher but capable of running routes.

— Sinks low to cradle and rescue low throws.

Weaknesses

— Lack of length makes it tough to sustain blocks in-line.

— Shoddy angles allow edge defenders to escape blocks.

— Needs to approach blocks with a better feel for leverage.

— Limited catch radius to extend and grab tall throws.

James Burnip, punter

NFL.com prospect grade: 5.91 — Average backup or special-teamer

Position rank: No. 1 punter

Strengths

— Has the hang time to make a gunner’s job much easier.

— Almost completely eliminated return yardage in 2024.

— Very comfortable and focused as a directional punter.

— Solid punt power with consistent ball striking.

Weaknesses

— Might need to quicken his touch-to-toe time as a pro.

— Some inconsistencies with touchbacks during his career.

Malachi Moore, safety

NFL.com prospect grade: 5.90 — Average backup or special-teamer

Position rank: No. 13 safety

Strengths

— Team captain in 2023 and 2024.

— Asked to play high, low and from the slot at Alabama.

— Good anticipation of route breaks from off-man.

— Finds and tracks the football in deep coverages.

— Steps downhill and sets his edge when called on.

—Has game-ready experience on special teams.

Weaknesses

— Lacks size and physicality in run support.

— Below-average aggression with his block take-on.

— Stays attached to the block for too long.

— Average athleticism with below-average long speed.

— Saw his coverage confusion turn into touchdowns.

— Below-average burst to close the distance on leaky routes.

C.J. Dippre, tight end 

NFL.com prospect grade: 5.89 — Average backup or special-teamer

Position rank: No. 14 tight end

Strengths

— Good frame and athletic talent.

— Plays through contested catches like a big man.

— Works clear from coverage when play extends.

— Breaks tackles with physical run after catch.

— Fits up zone blocks with good footwork and balance.

— Versatility to play in-line or as a lead blocker.

Weaknesses

— Contact magnet at release and inside the route.

— Schemed into most of his open looks as a target.

— Hands are spotty when catching outside his frame.

— Lacks physicality and fire as a run blocker.

— Needs to keep his inside hand tighter for better control.

Que Robinson, edge rusher 

NFL.com prospect grade: 5.88 — Average backup or special-teamer

Position rank: No. 27 edge rusher

Strengths

— Sets edges with proper leverage and extension.

— Can punch and play around blocks in space.

— Can beat guards with arm-over as an off-ball blitzer.

— Quick change of direction as an open-field tackler.

— Has speed and range to spy mobile quarterbacks.

— Full-time, four-phase special-teamer.

Weaknesses

— Played less than 400 career run/pass snaps, per PFF.

— Below-average recognition in the run game.

— Needs to learn to get away from big blockers more quickly.

—Skill set as a pass rusher needs development.

—Displays some hip tightness getting around the corner.
