The University of Alabama football team will wear a commemorative jersey in its game with Ole Miss this Saturday, Oct. 14, to honor the 25th anniversary of Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's 315th win and his final Southeastern Conference championship team from 1981. Bryant became college football's all-time winningest coach with a 28-17 win over Auburn on Nov. 28, 1981 at Legion Field. The Crimson Tide finished the 1981 season with a 9-2-1 record and the school's 18th SEC title.

The commemorative jersey designed by Nike and featuring houndstooth trim around its collar, marks the 11th time the Crimson Tide has worn a commemorative jersey or helmet during a game. The other occurrences:

*1969: Alabama wore red helmets featuring a football-shaped white "100" sticker to celebrate the 100th anniversary of college football.

*1983: Alabama wore a houndstooth tooth hat sticker on the back of the helmets in memory of Bryant, who passed away on Jan. 26, 1983.

*1992: Alabama wore a centennial patch on the left shoulder to commemorate the 100th season of Crimson Tide football.

*2005: Alabama wore a helmet sticker including the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida to honor the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

*2006: Alabama is wearing a 175th anniversary patch to commemorate the 175th birthday of the University of Alabama.

*Bowl games: Alabama wore bowl patches on the left shoulder of the jersey at the 1998 Music City Bowl, 2000 Orange Bowl, 2001 Independence Bowl, 2004 Music City Bowl and 2006 Cotton Bowl.

The retail launch date for the Alabama Pro Rev Twill jerseys designed by Nike will be Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Alabama-Ole Miss game. The retail cost will be $80 for the jersey, which will have a crimson body with white numbers. The jerseys will be available at the Nike Tent at Bryant-Denny Stadium (northwest corner) on Saturday. The jerseys will also be available at Alabama Express, The Alabama Book Store, Bama Fever, Hibbett Sports and the University Supply Store (Ferguson Center).
