TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — For a brief moment, Blake Sims was a quarterback again. At times, he even felt like he was throwing to his favorite receiver.
Sims, who holds Alabama’s single-season passing record with 3,487 yards in 2014, was back in Tuscaloosa on Wednesday to throw to receivers Calvin Ridley, Cam Sims and Robert Foster during the Crimson Tide’s Pro Day. While his sore arm reminded him that it was his first throwing session since his own Pro Day in 2015, he shared laughs with Alabama coaches stating it felt like he had never left.
That’s due in part to the company he shared.
Much of Sims’ record-breaking season in 2014 was spent throwing the ball to Amari Cooper, who put up school records himself with 124 receptions for 1,724 yards. The current Oakland Raiders star wasn’t in attendance Wednesday. Although, there were instances where Sims could have sworn he was.
“When I saw Calvin run down that field, I thought I saw No. 9 [Cooper],” Sims said. “That’s what I saw, that’s what I thought. There are some differences, but that’s what I saw.”
