Rivals Camp Series: Takeaways from Mobile's adizero combine

MOBILE, Ala. – The Rivals Camp Series presented by adidas kicked off its Alabama stop with Saturday’s adizero combine. The event attracted more than 1,000 players, many of which earned invites to Sunday’s Rivals Three Stripe Camp. Below are news and notes from Saturday’s event, including intel on the players that were invited back for the second day.

CLASS OF 2019 RANKINGS: Rivals250 | State | Position

Defensive back Tyrone Lewis was already invited and registered for Sunday’s event, but showed up to test on Saturday out of pure desire and curiosity. Lewis holds offers from Missouri and Florida, among others. Lewis is particularly high on Missouri as things stand now and visited Columbia last summer. Lewis will likely see his offer list grow in the coming months but the Tigers sit in an advantageous positon at this early stage.

Linebacker Adam Chaney also arrived at Saturday’s combine with an invitation to Sunday’s camp already in hand. The Alabama-based standout holds offers from Southern Miss, Troy and Louisiana Lafayette, but could soon see his options expand to include Michigan State and Mississippi State, both of which have already made contact. On Saturday, Chaney weighed in at 212 pounds and ripped off a 4.34 40-yard dash that turned heads and garnered increased attention.

Eighth-grade prospect Lucas Taylor landed Saturday’s first camp invitation. And while the young tackle doesn’t have scholarship offers yet, Ole Miss and Mississippi State have already been in contact. Taylor, who will attend Mississippi’s Ocean Springs High School, has a sister who is currently committed to the Mississippi State to play softball, but he says her situation won’t have a massive effect on his recruitment. Taylor already has the build of a high school junior, and will add even more size as he develops. There’s little doubt that his future includes a long list of FBS offers.

Tight end Tyson Keys scored an invitation for Sunday’s camp after showing well at the combine. The 6-foot-2 junior already holds an offer from South Alabama. Schools such as Mississippi State, Ohio and Memphis are also in touch. Keys plays a handful of positions on the high school level, but will focus on tight end when he hits college.

Defensive back Sam Reynolds ran a 4.73 40-yard dash and landed an invitation to Sunday’s camp. A class of 2021 prospect, Reynolds plays for one of the top programs in Alabama, but has yet to land his first scholarship offer. Reynolds has decent length and should be able to stand toe-to-toe with more touted prospects Sunday.

Other prospects receiving camp invites included Birmingham-based wide receiver Marcus McGhee, running back Patrick McGhee (no relation) and offensive lineman Stevie Ballard. They’ll be joined at camp by Malachi Harvey, Christian Williams, Jauon Davis, Jeremiah Robinson and Anquin Barnes.
