Chris Owens, three-star offensive guard from Lamar High School in Arlington, Texas, took an official visit to Alabama this weekend. The Tide commitment enjoyed the time on campus, and looks forward to returning to Tuscaloosa in January as a student-athlete.
"The visit was pretty good," said Owens. "I met up with Coach Saban. I hung out with Brandon Kennedy (player host). We didn't do too much in terms of going-out wise. We saw the campus. My mom went with me.
"My favorite part was going to Coach Saban's house. We ate breakfast at his house. We played some basketball. We went down to the lake. It was nice."
Owens is solid to Alabama and will enroll next month. The coaching staff does not need to spend a lot of time selling the program to the out-of-state verbal pledge.
"Coach Saban was basically reenforcing everything he told me before," Owens said. "He wants me to be ready for me when I get there. I spent a good bit of time with Cristobal. He was basically saying the same thing Coach Saban was saying.
"I spent some time with Coach Cochran. He was telling me what to expect once I get there. He was telling me to make sure I am in shape so I can keep up with everything. They want me to be in shape and ready for the fourth quarter program."
A few other visitors were also in Tuscaloosa this weekend including Alabama commitments Eddy Pineiro and Shawn Jennings.
"Those guys were pretty cool," Owens said. "I've been in a group message with those guys. It was good to finally meet up with them. My host was Brandon Kennedy. He gave me some good information about what to expect when I get there and how he adjusted to everything."
Alabama running back Derrick Henry was named the Heisman Trophy winner on Saturday night in New York.
"I was very happy for him," Owens said. "I expected him to win it based on the season he had. It was really good to see him win it last night."
