Stephenson (GA) 2027 edge rusher KJ Green is being recruited by some of the nation's top programs like Georgia, Florida, LSU, Ohio State, South Carolina, and Texas. The in-state Bulldogs have picked up a lot of ground over the last few weeks.
Green and Georgia outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe are starting to grow closer. The coach checked in on the 6-foot-5, 215-pound edge rusher during a practice in early May.
Uzo-Diribe's visit made Green feel wanted.
"Man, he's such a genuine guy," Green said. "You know, last summer, through my coaches, he was figuring out what I had going on each day, checking in on me daily, seeing what I'm doing every day. That definitely shows the extra step he's willing to take to communicate and build that relationship."
Green has made the short trip to Athens several times during his recruitment. His last visit was in March, when he attended a Georgia practice and observed Uzo-Diribe coach his players.
"He coaches everybody hard. He coaches everybody the same," Green said. "You could tell it's definitely not like a favoritism type of thing. He definitely treats all his players with the same type of love. So, I mean, that's just the type of person that I am. I love to see stuff like that."
Green highlighted that the player who stood out the most was freshman Darren Ikinnagbon.
Green said he also saw how head coach Kirby Smart ran his practice.
"I never realized how funny Coach Smart was on that microphone, but that also shows me that he cares about everything," Green said. "He sees everything. He wants everybody to do their best."
Green loves Georgia because the staff has a plan for him. Because of his size, speed, and versatility on the defensive line, they want to use him in multiple spots.
Green said he doesn't mind rotating around at different positions to benefit the team.
"I feel like they view me as something versatile, an edge, but can also drop back, rush the passer, or stop the run," Green said. "I just feel like with my two years left to go, I feel like that would really determine the type of weight I put on. That would definitely determine the type of whatever position I play when I get out there."
Green also appreciates that the Bulldog coaches don't always discuss football with him on visits.
"I feel like we definitely talk about everything," Green said. "I mean, family, football, but when we talk about football, [Coach Uzo-Diribe] definitely always lets me know about aggression. He always lets me know that as long as you're aggressive on the field, and you've got that mindset that nobody can block you and nobody can stop you, you could be great at what you do."
Green plans on returning to Athens this summer for a camp.
