TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Daniel Wright has been suspended from the team due to “a violation of team rules,” Nick Saban said during his Wednesday news conference. Wright, a sophomore safety, has been missing from practice this week. He did not play in Alabama’s game last week against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Wright served as a backup in Alabama’s first four games this season, tallying eight tackles and two pass breakups. He was replaced by Jared Mayden on Alabama’s second-team dime unit during Wednesday’s practice.

Saban gives update on Jonah Williams' status

Earlier in the day, Saban provided an update on starting left tackle Jonah Williams, who returned to practice Wednesday after spraining his ankle against Louisiana-Lafayette. Williams did not take reps on Monday and Tuesday and was limited during Wednesday’s viewing period. During his appearance on the SEC Coaches Teleconference, Saban said he thinks Williams will be able to play Saturday against Arkansas but stated the junior’s status is still “probably a little bit of a question mark right now.”

Matt Womack filled in for Williams during practice on Monday and Tuesday but moved to right tackle during Wednesday’s practice. Womack was Alabama’s starting right tackle last year but broke his foot during offseason camp. He made his first appearance of the season last week, filling in at right tackle after starer Jedrick Wills Jr. took a shot to the groin.

Williams, who went down toward the end of the first quarter, was replaced by Chris Owens during Saturday’s game. Owens was working as the second-team center during practice this week.

No. 1 Alabama will travel to Arkansas for an 11 a.m. kickoff. The game will be televised on ESPN.
