Alabama self-reports 22 violations

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama's athletic department self-reported 22 minor violations, according to a summary posted on the school's website Friday afternoon.

Nine of the violations were reported by the football team, while the men's golf and women's gymnastics teams reported two apiece. Baseball, men's basketball, men's tennis, men's track and field, women's basketball, women's cross country and softball all reported one violation. Alabama also reported violations in the Life Skills department as well as the Athletics Communications department.

Football

— Head coach inadvertently used a wrong number for a coach and called prospective student-athlete prior to September 1 of his senior year.

— Current student-athlete sold multiple pieces of institutional issued items and participation awards.

— A non-coaching staff member provided tactical instruction to student-athlete during competition.

— Current student-athlete participated in an impermissible promotional activity.

— Current mid-year enrollee tweeted a message publically stating he was excited to host a specific PSA on the PSA’s official visit.

— Assistant coach replied to a direct Twitter message from a prospect prior to the first permissible date to send Twitter correspondence.

— An assistant coach called a prospect prior to the first permissible calling date.

— Assistant coach engaged in impermissible off-campus contact with a prospect.

— Members of football coaching staff permitted an impermissible recruiter to be present during an off-campus contact.

Baseball

— Assistant baseball coach inadvertently responded to a text message sent by prospective student-athlete prior to Sept. 1 of his junior year in high school.

Gymnastics

— While on an unofficial visit, prospective student-athlete and her father took a picture with a former football student-athlete.

— Associate head women’s gymnastics coach inadvertently called a prospective student-athlete prior to September 1 of her senior year in high school.

Men's basketball

— Men’s basketball player practiced prior to signing NCAA Drug Testing Consent Form.

Men's golf 

— Assistant men’s golf coach had interaction with the father of PSA that extended in excess of an exchange of a greeting prior to July 1 following the completion of PSA’s junior year in high school.

— Golf coach mistakenly responded to a text message sent by the father of a prospective student-athlete prior to September 1st of the junior year in high school.

Men's tennis 

— Assistant coach congratulated a prospect for verbally committing to Alabama on the prospect’s public Facebook page.

Men's track and field

— Assistant coach paid for the meal of five family members of a recruit on an official visit, when the rule only allowed for four family members to receive meals.

Softball

— Head coach mistakenly responded to a text message sent by prospective student-athlete prior to Sept. 1 of her junior year in high school.

Women's basketball

— Male practice players participated with the women's basketball team without first signing the NCAA DrugTesting Consent Form identified in Bylaw 12.7.3

Women's cross country

— Assistant coach sent an email to a recruit prior to the first permissible date to send electronic correspondence.

Athletics Communications 

— A member of the Athletics Communications staff inadvertently sent a link to a collection of prospective student-athlete photos publicizing a visit to campus to the sport's media distribution list.

Life Skills 

— Institutional staff member posted a picture of student-athletes on Instagram, tagging a commercial entity.
