Alabama has won the past three SEC championships, and the Crimson Tide will enter this season as the favorites to make four in a row. Alabama was chosen to win the SEC championship by the media during SEC Media Days, earning 217 points, topping Auburn which finished second with 11 points.

Naturally, the Tide was also picked to win the SEC West, earning 1,683 total points. Auburn finished second with 1,329 points, while LSU finished in third with 1,262 points. Alabama received 225 first-place votes.

The media predicted Georgia to meet the Tide in the SEC Championship Game, as the Bulldogs topped all SEC East teams with 1,572 total points. Florida finished close behind with 1,526 points, while Tennessee finished in third with 998 points.

While Alabama is widely thought as the favorite to win the SEC, the favorable projection has not been a guarantee for success in the past. The media has predicted the SEC champions just six times since 1992, after correctly tabbing the Tide to win last season.

Alabama beat Florida 54-16 in last year’s SEC Championship Game. If the Tide were to win the SEC title this year, it would be its 26th SEC championship and fifth in six years.

The preseason All-SEC Team will be announced later today.
