TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Ross Pierschbacher doesn’t know how much the final bill was. Luckily for the Alabama offensive lineman, he doesn’t need to.

Pierschbacher was one of at least 12 offensive linemen treated to dinner by Jalen Hurts on Sunday night as the starting quarterback took his protecting unit to the newly renovated Baumhower’s Victory Grille on Harper Lee Dr. in Tuscaloosa. With most of Alabama’s offensive line weighing in at more than 300 pounds, it’s safe to say the unit made a dent into Hurts’ wallet.
“I know I wouldn't want to be paying for that," Pierschbacher said with a smile.
The restaurant, owned by former Alabama offensive lineman Bob Baumhower, was a good choice by Hurts considering his company. The popular entree of choice among the group was chicken wings, although the meal also included a wide variety of sides and appetizers.
"I got wings and the gooey fries and some of the guys got mozzarella,” Pierschbacher said.
According to Pierschbacher, the dinner had been in the works for a while. Hurts brought up the idea a couple of weeks ago and was eventually invited to the exclusive offensive line group text. Less than two weeks until No. 1 Alabama’s season opener against No. 3 Florida State, Sunday night served as the perfect timing for the event.

"Yeah, it was good, especially just before classes start and everyone gets on campus and people kind of go their separate ways,” Pierschbacher said. “It's a good way to — camp isn't over yet — but kind of the conclusion of camp just have us get together outside the facility and just have a good time and relax."
While Hurts’ bank account might have taken a temporary hit, the night out could ultimately serve as an investment ensuring that he doesn’t take too many hits himself this season. Last season, Alabama’s offensive line allowed Hurts to pass for 2,780 yards and 23 touchdowns while also helping him rush for 954 yards and a team-high 13 more scores on the ground.
So will the preseason gesture persuade the reigning SEC Offensive Play of the Year’s linemen to block even harder for him this season?
It definitely didn’t hurt.
"I probably will,” Pierschbacher said, letting out a small laugh. “I'll keep that in the back of my mind."
