Top kicker in the country talks Alabama commitment

Will Reichard, three-star kicker from Hoover High School in Alabama, announced his commitment to the defending national champions on Wednesday morning. Reichard had trimmed his list to Alabama, Georgia and LSU.

"I told the coaches last week," Reichard said. "I did a video call with Coach Saban. I can't remember the day, but it was sometime last week. He was really excited. He had a big smile on his face. He is happy to have me and ready to get me on campus.

"I was really excited. It's something I've been thinking about for a long time. It's college football's biggest platform. I'd say I've had it in my heart for the past month and a half. I just wanted to make sure I was making the right decision."

Reichard is the seventh in-state commitment for the Crimson Tide in 2019. He discussed why he decided to commit to Alabama.

"It's close to home," he said. "My family can come and watch me play. Coach Banks is the best in the country at what he does. Alabama has a really good track record of not only helping players on the field, but off the field as well. The culture there is just like mine at my high school. We are always winning. It's something I have enjoyed and want to continue that in college."

Chris Sailer, widely considered the best kicking instructor in the country said, "I can say with certainty that he is the best I’ve ever seen at the high school level."

Reichard is a great kicker and punter. So which position does he intend to play at the next level?

"I want to mainly focus on field goals and kick-offs," he said. "I will do whatever I can to help the team win."

Reichard plans on recruiting teammate and Auburn commitment George Pickens to Alabama. Pickens recently received an offer from The Tide.

"I'm really going to start working on him now," he said of Pickens. "I think Alabama has a shot. He is a special player."

The new Alabama commitment will return to Tuscaloosa for the special teams camp on June 2. He will enroll at Alabama in January.
