The last five Iron Bowls have been filled with excitement and drama

On Monday, Nick Saban gave his opening comments on the Iron Bowl. “The Iron Bowl is a tremendous rivalry game and there’s a lot of passion on both sides,” said Saban.

“Lots of people are interested in it and it’s got lots of ramifications this year. As a competitor, this is always a game you look forward to having the opportunity to play in. Our team has put themselves in a position where they have an opportunity to accomplish something in terms of taking the next step that we need to take to be able to have a chance to win the West or have an opportunity to play in the SEC Championship Game.”

Today, we take a five-year trip down memory lane of the Iron Bowl.

2016 - Alabama 30, Auburn 12

Game Details 

Alabama jumped out to a 10-3 in the first quarter when Damien Harris caught a 17-yard pass from Jalen Hurts. Auburn field goal kicker Daniel Carlson hit three first-half field goals to make it 13-9 Alabama at the half. A 4-yard touchdown run by Jalen Hurts and a 38-yard touchdown pass from Hurts to ArDarius Stewart in the third quarter would seal the game.

Game Details 

Alabama kicker Adam Griffith hit four field goals and Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson hit two field goals in the first half as the Crimson Tide would take a 12-6 lead into halftime over the Tigers. Alabama quarterback Jake Coker would hit ArDarius Stewart for a 34-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson would fire back hitting Jason Smith for a 77-yard score just minutes later to make it 19-13 Alabama heading into the fourth quarter.

Griffith would hit his fifth field goal of the game in the fourth, the Derrick Henry would reel off a 25-yard touchdown run with 26 seconds left in the game to make it a 29-13 final.

Game Details 

In a shootout that featured 99 points in Tuscaloosa, Crimson Tide running back T.J. Yeldon got things started with an 8-yard run, then Amari Cooper caught a 17-yard touchdown pass from Blake Sims for 17-yards to make the first quarter 14-6 after two Daniel Carlson field goals. Carlson would hit two more field goals in the second quarter, and Sammie Coates would score twice for Auburn giving the Tigers a 26-21 lead at the half. Amari Cooper of Alabama would haul in two third-quarter touchdowns from Blake Sims, one from 39-yards out and the other was a 75-yard strike giving the Crimson Tide a 36-34 lead entering the fourth quarter.

Sims would score on an 11-yard run, then Sims threw a touchdown to DeAndrew White, then running back Derrick Henry scored from 25-yards out making it 55-36 Alabama with just 3:46 left in the game. Auburn would score with 20 seconds making the final 55-44.

Game Details 

Alabama entered No. 1, Auburn entered the game No. 4 and it was the Tigers that took a 7-0 led after a Nick Marshall 45-yard touchdown run. Alabama would quarterback AJ McCarron would throw two touchdowns in the second quarter, the first to Jalston Fowler for 3-yards, then second to Kevin Norwood for a 20-yard score, combined with a 1-yard touchdown from T.J. Yeldon would give Alabama a 21-14 lead going into the half time break. Marshall would hit C.J. Uzomah for 13-yards and that made the game 21 all entering the final quarter. McCarron hit Amari Cooper for a 99-yard touchdown, Marshall then hit Sammie Coates for a 39-yard touchdown to make it 28 all with 32 seconds in the game.

Alabama kicker Adam Griffith set up for a game-winning 57-yard field goal, which was missed and returned by Auburn's Chris Davis for a touchdown with no time remaining in a play that would be forever known as the “Kick-Six”. Auburn won in unbelievable fashion 34-28.

Alabama running back Eddie Lacy opened the game with a 2-yard touchdown run, then T.J. Yeldon scored from 2-yards out to make it 14-0 Alabama in the first quarter. Quarterback AJ McCarron hit Amari Cooper for a 37-yard touchdown, then McCarron would hit Kevin Norwood for a 7-yard score, add another Lacy touchdown run, then McCarron hit Cooper again for a touchdown, this time from 29-yards out to give Alabama a 42-0 lead at the half.
