The unfortunate news of the passing of former University of Alabama running back Altee Tenpenny hit his old teammates particularly hard Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, many of them taking to social media to remember a friend's life taken too soon.

Tenpenny died as the result of a single car accident in Mississippi on Tuesday afternoon, a Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman said.
Tenpenny was a member of the Crimson Tide from 2013-14 and left the team in January to enroll at UNLV. After being dismissed from there he ultimately landed at Nicholls State. He had recently been indefinitely suspended from Nicholls State after being arrested on charges of possession of a firearm and discharging a weapon.
UA coach Nick Saban said Tenpenny's death was a "tragedy." He reached out to Tenpenny's mother Wednesday.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Altee and his family," Saban said. "This is a guy that was in our program and was good friends with a lot of our players. We're going to be as supportive as possible to all the people that are affected by this."
A number of players, including Derrick Henry, Kenyan Drake, Alphonse Taylor, Reggie Ragland and Maurice Smith among others, all shared their grief through social media.
Drake wrote, "The tears haven't stopped since I heard the news."
Henry added, "I love you bruh, with all of my heart and your name will always live through me."
Saban said the team will provide whatever resources it needs to to help players through this tragic time.
"We do everything we can to support the players in every way," Saban said. "We do have counseling programs and we do have counselors and sports psychologists and a psychiatrist that we use to try to help the players every way we can.
"We try to be as supportive as a staff as we can to our players. We do the best we can to try to help our players through a tragedy like this."
It's not the first time Saban's had to deal with death during his tenure at Alabama. Former offensive tackle Aaron Douglas passed in May 2011 from an accidental drug overdose.
It was a tough day emotionally around the football building. Tenpenny, though no longer with the team, kept close friendships with several current players.
"A lot of guys are down," senior linebacker Denzel Devall said. "It's just about picking each other up. Just remembering the good times. He always had a big smile, dimples. I ain't really seen him down. No matter what he was going through he was always smiling, clowning.
"I really couldn't believe it. It just seemed so surreal. That's like a brother. That's what I was telling everybody today in the locker room. We're all brothers. We're around each other 24-7. Just to see one of your brothers gone it's going to hurt you hard."
"That was one of our brothers," sophomore offensive lineman Cam Robinson said. "That was a tough loss. We tried to come out at practice and focus what we were supposed to focus on, but it was obviously tough losing one of our brothers. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family right now."
