Spring practice: Week 2 recap

Alabama wrapped up its second week of spring football drills with a scrimmage at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday. But if you haven't visited BamaOnLine.com on a daily basis in the past week, you've probably missed a lot. Below is a quick summary of UA's spring practices since Monday:
ROSTER NEWS

*** There was no movement on the scholarship roster last week.
POSITION MOVES
*** Linebacker Cory Reamer moved from the strongside position to the weakside as the Tide opened the second full week of drills. Reamer worked at the weakside spot in a reserve role last season.
*** Fullback Baron Huber moved to defense on Wednesday, working with the outside linebackers under coach Lance Thompson. Head coach Nick Saban called the move "experimental".
*** Noseguard Brian Motley worked with the offensive linemen Wednesday, but did not participate in contact work due to an injury. Like with Huber, Saban also said there was nothing necessarily permanent about this move.
INJURIES
*** Three players have worn black (non-contact) jerseys all spring, and their playing hopes for the A-Day game now get less likely with each practice: Running back Glen Coffee (shoulder), offensive lineman Patrick Crump (knee) and defensive end Milton Talbert (shoulder).
*** Three other notable players - lineman Brian Motley (finger), cornerback Lionel Mitchell (back) and wide receiver Nikita Stover (hamstring) - were held out of contact all of last week.
SECOND SCRIMMAGE
The Alabama offense rebounded from a miserable performance in the first scrimmage to post some impressive numbers in the second. Quarterback John Parker Wilson completed 17 of 33 passes for 216 yards, while running back Roy Upchurch ran for 80 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Tight end Nick Walker made eight receptions, all short-yardage completions, while receiver Mike McCoy recorded a scrimmage-high 92 receiving yards. Freshman running back Jeramie Griffin scored on a two-yard run.
Defensively, Rolando McClain posted two sacks, while Alfred McCullough and Cory Reamer made one sack each. Converted running back Jimmy Johns made four stops at his weakside linebacker position.
Kicker Leigh Tiffin connected on a 51-yard field goal, while punter P.J. Fitzgerald averaged 45.6 yards on five punts.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"I was hurting but I couldn't give up ... because my teammates were depending on me to finish." - Linebacker Rolando McClain on playing through a broken thumb and a separated shoulder in the Independence Bowl.
