TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama appears to have landed the quarterback guru it has been searching for, as former Florida State quarterback and Heisman winner Chris Weinke is set to join the Crimson Tide’s staff as an offensive analyst, according to multiple reports.

Weinke, 44, will fill the role left behind by Clint Trickett, who was hired by Alabama earlier this year but later accepted the job as tight ends coach at Florida Atlantic under former Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

Weinke played quarterback in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers (2001-06) and the San Francisco 49ers (2007). While at Florida State, he became the oldest player to win the Heisman Trophy, earning the honor in 2000 at the age of 28. During that season, he completed 61.7 percent of his passes for 4,167 yards and 33 touchdowns with 11 interceptions, leading the Seminoles to the BCS National Championship Game.

He also has experience coaching, most recently serving as the quarterbacks coach for the St. Louis Rams the past two seasons. Before that, Weinke was the Director of Football at IMG Academy from 2010-14. During his time at IMG Academy he coached Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough.
