Latu describes craziest moment of life

Cameron Latu, three-star tight end from Olympus High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, made the trek East for Alabama's Junior Day on Saturday in Tuscaloosa. He did not leave without an offer from the Crimson Tide.

"It was a great trip," Latu said. "It was my first time going there. My mom went with me. The Junior Day started off by checking height (6-4) and weight (235). I then met with Coach Tosh (Lupoi), the outside linebackers coach. He showed me around. I met the rest of the coaching staff.

"We then went and saw the facilities. I had two girl hosts. They showed me around. Then the whole Junior Day went to lunch. That's when Coach Saban wanted to offer me. I went to his office. That was the craziest moment of my entire life.

"We then ate lunch. We then went and took pics in jerseys. We saw the stadium. We saw the rest of the campus and the dorms. The campus was beautiful. We met with some of the players and then went to the basketball game."

Latu was excited about his meeting with five time national championship head coach, Nick Saban.

"He was very bold and very upfront," he said. "He told me right away I have a scholarship. He didn't wait to tell me. He said he really liked my film. He wanted to offer me a scholarship. He was then talking about how the school works with academics. He talked about staying focused.

"I didn't know how to react. It was crazy. I was literally in his office. It's Nick Saban! I had a feeling I could get the offer. Coach Tosh was telling me he flew out to Utah to only see me. They don't do that often. He said he didn't take the trip just to come say hi. They invited me to Alabama. I had a feeling, but also didn't want to get my hopes up."

The talented athlete enjoyed his time with Coach Lupoi, and hopes to continue to develop a close relationship.

"I feel like our relationship got a lot stronger this weekend," Latu said. "I feel like I can be coached by him. He is aggressive in what he does. He is a fantastic coach. We were going over some plays. I like how he explains everything at outside linebacker and edge rusher. He is a great coach."

Latu has eight offers with early favorites which includes Alabama, BYU, UCLA and Utah. He spoke highly of the University of Alabama following the trip.

"I just like how organized they are," he said. "I like how they practice and go after things. I just see why they win so many games. They showed me around the campus. It's really nice. What they do is crazy. They also help academic-wise. I will be back in the summer or spring for sure."
