Jones recaps first Alabama game

Mac Jones, four-star quarterback from The Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida, returned to Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the Crimson Tide's 38-10 win against Western Kentucky. It was the first time the Alabama commitment has watched a game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

"It was a lot of fun for sure," Jones said. "It was my first Alabama game ever. It was a little crazy. I just loved everything about it. I talked to Coach Saban for a long time. He is always busy, so it was good to talk to him for a while.

"The food is good every time. The Walk of Champions is awesome. We got to go on the field before the game. It was cool to see the stadium fill up. It was really hot, but overall it was a good visit.

"I thought the quarterbacks played pretty good. Blake (Barnett) and Jalen (Hurts) both played. It was good to see two quarterbacks playing. I think both of them did some good things out there."

Jones discussed his conversations with Coach Saban and offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin.

"Coach Sabana was talking about the game and quarterback situation, just stuff like that," he said. "He wants to run the pro-style system, but wants to do what is best for the team. He always has a different saying every time I talk to him. It's always good to listen to him every chance I get.

"We talked to Coach Kiffin before the game. He said hello. He was pretty excited for the game. He is a cool guy, and we cracked some jokes. The grad assistants dress up nice for the game. He was making fun of me because I was dressed up like them. It was funny. We had a good talk."

Jones is one of Alabama's biggest recruiters. One of Alabama's top targets, DeVonta Smith, was also in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

"Smitty was there," Jones said. "I talked to him for a while. He was probably the biggest visitor. I know he pushed his commitment date back. He likes Tuscaloosa. It's going to be interesting to see what he ends up doing.

"I talked to Hunter Brannon probably the most. I didn't really know him that well. It was good to talk to him. Seth Williams was also there. He was with some teammates, but I talked to him for a little bit.

"I reach out to everyone every once in a while. When the coaches need me to talk to someone I reach out to them. I think we need another lineman or two. I don't know what Jedrick Wills is doing, but hopefully he comes on board. Henry Ruggs would also be a good one to get. I let VanDarius Cowan handle the defensive guys. I'll sometimes reach out to them."

Jones is likely to return to Tuscaloosa when Alabama hosts Kentucky. He is also considering his official visit for Iron Bowl weekend.
