Deaderick released from hospital
TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama senior defensive end Brandon Deaderick was released from the DCH Medical Center at approximately 4 p.m. Tuesday, roughly 18 hours after he was shot in the arm during an attempted robbery.
The Crimson Tide is scheduled to open its season Saturday against Virginia Tech at the Georgia Dome. Sophomore Marcell Dareus worked in Deaderick's starting spot during Tuesday's practice.

"We feel very fortunate that Brandon is doing well and that this is not a more serious situation," Coach Nick Saban said in a statement earlier Tuesday. "We are hopeful that his condition will continue to improve as we expect him to be released from the hospital later in the day today.
"Our concern at this time is for Brandon's continued recovery as our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, not about when he will return to football."
Deaderick was shot in the Rivermont Apartments parking lot at approximately 10 p.m. Monday night.
Although police did take into custody a man located in front of the nearby Cypress Inn Restaurant at approximately midnight, it was not related to the Deaderick shooting.
"We have not identified a suspect, and the investigation is ongoing," police spokesman Captain Greg Kosloff said.
Deaderick told police that he and a woman were approached by a man wearing dark clothes, a dark ball cap and a blue bandanna over his face. Apartment residents described him as "tall, black and skinny."
Deaderick, 22, started all 14 games last season and has played in 34 career games for Alabama, while making 21 starts. He has 60 career tackles with 8.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. The starting defensive end is listed ahead of junior Luther Davis on the depth chart.
