Alabama welcomes 11 official visitors

Alabama is set for a big weekend in Tuscaloosa. Several top targets and commitments return to the Capstone for the final time before National Signing Day.

Why it matters: Ray is the top player in the state of Alabama. He has been one of Alabama's top overall targets from the start of his recruitment.

Finalists: Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State

Why it matters: Smith has been one of Alabama's top targets for more than a year. Alabama wide receivers coach Billy Napier has led the charge. The Tide wants at least one more elite receiver in this class.

Finalists: Alabama, LSU, Miami

Why it matters: Alabama considers Ruggs one of the premier overall players in the country. He has been on Alabama's wish list since day one. He is an elite athlete, and one of the fastest players in the country.

Finalists: Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Penn State,

Why it matters: Depth on the defensive front is a concern for Alabama. Defensive tackles in this class are important. Mathis has been recruited by Alabama for almost a year. He has excellent size to play on the defensive front.

Finalists: Alabama, LSU, TCU

Why it matters: Alabama is pressing for one more defensive back in the 2017 class. Harris has the ability to play safety, corner or nickel. Coach Saban had an in-home visit with Harris earlier this week.

Why it matters: Allen committed to Alabama in late November. It hasn't stopped LSU from hot pursuit. He visited the Tigers last weekend. Alabama hopes to end any hope of LSU flipping the home town product with a great official visit in Tuscaloosa.

Why it matters: Jones considered taking additional official visits. He isn't likely to take any other trips after visiting with Nick Saban and Steve Sarkisian on Wednesday. Jones appears ready and eager to arrive at Alabama in late May ready to go to work.

Why it matters: Benton cancelled an official visit to Georgia last weekend. He appears locked in with his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

Why it matters: There was never any doubt on Randolph's commitment. He considered taking an official visit to Florida this month. He will only visit Alabama.

Why it matters: It's been a few months since James has visited Alabama. He is not considering other options.

Why it matters: Byers admitted in Orlando at the Under Armour All-America game he still has some ground to make up on the academic side. Those issues are likely addressed this weekend.
