It wasn’t too long ago that Jalen Hurts was the only scholarship quarterback on Alabama’s roster. After seeing backup quarterbacks Blake Barnett, Cooper Bateman and David Cornwell all transfer out of the program, the Crimson Tide was left with very little experience at the position.

The arrivals of freshmen Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones will add depth. Both enrolled early at Alabama and will participate in the Tide’s spring practices starting next week. Hurts proved last season that if a true freshman puts together a strong performance in both the spring and the fall, he will be given the opportunity to compete for the starting role. With both Jones and Tagovailoa coming in as highly-rated four-star recruits, they will be eager to follow in Hurts footsteps and push for immediate playing time.
