Alabama placed a conference-best 11 players on the All-SEC Coaches’ football team, the league released Tuesday afternoon, including three offensive players, three defensive players and one special teams player on the first team.
True freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts landed on the first team along with junior left tackle Cam Robinson, junior wide receiver ArDarius Stewart, senior defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, senior linebacker Reuben Foster, sophomore defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and junior punter JK Scott.
On the second team the Crimson Tide was represented by senior tight end O.J. Howard, sophomore wide receiver Calvin Ridley, senior linebacker Tim Williams and senior safety Eddie Jackson.
LSU placed nine players on the team, followed by Auburn, Florida and Texas A&M which each had six.
Coaches were not allowed to vote for members of their own team.
The SEC will release individual award winner Wednesday, followed by the All-Freshman team Thursday. For the complete All-SEC Football Team see below.
Saban up for award
UA head coach Nick Saban was named one of five finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
Joining Saban was Western Michigan’s P.J. Fleck, James Franklin (Penn State), Mike McIntrye (Colorado) and Chris Petersen (Washington).
Saban’s and Petersen’s teams will meet Dec. 31 in the College Football Playoff seminfinals in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta.
The winner will be announced Jan. 7 in Tampa.
Saban was also named Regional Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association, the organization announced Tueaday. Saban is one of five coaches to be named regional winners in the Football Bowl Subdivision.
It is the second regional award for Saban, who was named recognized by the AFCA in 2009.
Veneables wins Broyles Award
Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Veneables was named the 2016 Broyles Award recipient Tuesday.
Alabama defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt was a finalist for the award.
Pruitt was the architect of a 2016 Crimson Tide unit that ranks first national in total defense (3.94 yards per play), first in scoring defense (11.8 points per game), first in rush defense (2.03 yards per carry) and sixth in pass defense (5.8 yards per attempt).
