Crimson wins the day with 27-24 A-Day victory

Tuscaloosa, Ala.— Thanks to a last second 30-yard field goal by JK Scott, The Crimson Team came from behind to defeat the White Team 27-24 on Saturday. More than 60,000 fans at Bryant-Denny Stadium were treated with an exciting spring game that featured 730 total yards of offense.

The White Team led by Early Enrollee Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa opened the game with a 25-yard completion to another early enrollee in Jerry Jeudy for a 25-yards, then Najee Harris another early enrollee member of the White Team ripped off a 19-yard run.

The drive was quickly capped off by a 15-yard touchdown pass from Tagovailoa to T.J. Simmons to put the White up 7-0 with 10:30 in the first quarter. The White Team then jumped to a 14-0 lead with 6:40 in the opening quarter when a Tagovailoa pass which was intended for Xavian Marks was tipped only to be caught by Jeudy for a 25-yard score.

Trailing by two touchdowns, Crimson Team Quarterback Jalen Hurts fired downfield to a wide open Robert Foster for a 65-yard touchdown. In the first quarter alone Tagovailoa and Hurts had combined for 343-yards passing and three touchdown passes.

Tagovailoa and Jeudy would hook up again for another touchdown with 5:05 in the 2nd quarter, this time from 29-yards out. Tagovailoa would throw another score, but this time it counted for the Crimson.

Linebacker Terrell Hall read Tagovailoa’s swing pass, then leaped making an outstanding play on the ball returning the interception 60-yards for a score to make it 21-14 White with 2:08 before the half.

Crimson Kicker JK Scott who is the team’s All-American Punter booted a 37-yard field goal as time expired making the halftime score 21-17 in favor of the White.

The Key Stat at the half: 552-yards of offense with 38 points.

The second half of the game featured another JK Scott field goal, this time from 20-yards out.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts would hit Calvin Ridley for a 37-yard touchdown with 4:03 on the clock and a Pappanastos PAT made tied it at 24-24 with 4:03 left in the game.

Hurts would get one more shot in the final seconds and drove the Crimson team to the White 12-yard line. Scott closed it out with the 30-yard chip shot.
