Alabama Crimson Tide: Closer look at the top DL targets
The committed
Anquin Barnes was the first defensive line commitment for the University of Alabama in the 2021 class. Barnes, who was considered a major target for several top programs throughout the country, appears a little underrated by Rivals as the No. 23 overall player in the state.
Barnes was eager to showcase his skills at spring and summer camps to display his development as a lineman during the off-season. The opportunity was missed due to COVID-19 which forced the cancellation of camps. His stock will have a great chance to climb this fall.
Some might consider Dallas Turner a defensive line commitment. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound pass rusher is recruited as a outside or Jack linebacker. However, it's possible he can put on 40-50 pounds in weight much like former first round NFL Draft picks Jonathan Allen and Quinnen Williams.
Commitment watch
A lot of eyes are on Damon Payne as he prepares to announce his college decision on Sunday. The No. 1 player in the state of Michigan originally planned to wait until after taking official visits in the fall before announcing a decision. Payne recently said he planned to take official visits this fall to Alabama, Arizona State and USC. Kentucky has also been in heavy consideration.
