Message Board Rules

TIDESPORTS.COM MESSAGE BOARD RULES

Welcome to the Talk of Champions
The Tidesports.com Talk of Champions message board is an interactive, vibrant, informative online destination for Alabama fans. With a membership that is thousands-strong, however, comes the need for posting rules and moderation. Below are the rules and guidelines for posting on the board. Violations of these rules can result in your post being edited, deleted, or your account being blacklisted at the discretion of a Tidesports.com moderator. By subscribing, you agree that Rivals and/or the publisher(s) and board moderators of the site have the right to moderate as they see fit, in the best interest of the site.

Feedback and questions about moderation
If you have feedback on the site's content, staff, or moderation of the message board, email moderators@tidesports.com. Do not post feedback or ask why your post was deleted on the message board. If you have been blacklisted, email moderators@tidesports.com.

Solicitations, spamming, and related violations
1. No pornographic or obscene material of any kind.
2. No references to other premium websites. "TOS" references will be deleted as well.
3. No posting of commercial offers, things for sale, or any spamming of the board will be permitted. If your posting history suggests that your purpose for having a subscription is to link content from another site, the links will be deleted and you will be blacklisted.

Topic violations
1. No discussion of race, religion or politics, even as they may relate to Alabama sports. Those three topics inevitably devolve into a problem thread. Post on those topics on another site.

Profanity, flaming, trolling
1. No profanity. Altering spelling of profanity such that the word(s) are still interpreted by most as profane is not an acceptable substitution.
2. No personal attacks or insults on other posters, recruits, Tidesports.com staff, or Alabama athletes or coaches. That doesn't mean you can't post something negative or critical. But there is a line there that can not be crossed. Follow the Golden Rule here -- treat others how you would want to be treated -- and you'll never cross that line. In general, moderators will be more tolerant of strong criticism of UA coaches, whose job performances are, by nature, subject to public review, are who are paid a salary in part derived from fans themselves. IMPORTANT: If there is a poster you do not like or appreciate, use the ignore function and you won't have to read that person's posts. The ignore function is accessible in a link below every poster's username.
3. No trolling. Trolling means posting a thread or post intended only to cause a stir or a problem.
4. No posting of unsubstantiated rumors. Links to legitimate news stories posted on free websites are OK.

Other guidelines
1. Do not give out your personal information on the message board or chat room (email address, phone number, etc.) If you do so, you are exposing that information to thousands of people you don't know. We are not responsible for any problems resulting from you giving out personal information.
2. If you decide to cancel your subscription to Tidesports.com, do not announce that, or your reasons for it, on the message board. We thank you for your business, but would prefer parting feedback via e-mail.
3. Moderators have the discretion to delete posts that criticize another poster's spelling skills, criticize another poster for being late with news to the board, or belittle another poster in any other way for no apparent reason.
4. If you see what you think is an inflammatory post, ignore it and simply email a link to moderators@tidesports.com. Don't add gas to the fire. We will address it as promptly as possible.
5. Repetitive threads on the same topic may be deleted or merged at the moderator's discretion. This is typically more of a problem when breaking news occurs or after an important UA sporting event. When the board becomes littered with too many threads on the same topic, moderators will delete or merge threads as needed.
6. OT threads (off-topic) may be moved to 'The Strip', our free, off-topic forum. In general, moderators are more tolerant of off-topic threads on the Talk of Champions board if they are at least sports-related. Moderators also tend to be more tolerant of off-topic threads from February to July (after National Signing Day and before UA fall camp), and less tolerant during football and recruiting season.
7. Posters use the blockquoting tool (white button with quotation marks) to respond specifically to a previous post in the thread. It is especially helpful in longer threads to avoid confusion or address a particular poster on the board "@ (screen name)". Be aware if you blockquote a post that is later deleted, the Rivals.com admin system will also automatically delete your post. That creates unfortunate collateral damage, but it is necessary - otherwise deleted posts would remain on the message boards in blockquote form. If you are sensitive about your posts being deleted, you should avoid blockquoting posts you think are possibly in violation of a board rule.
