Evans, Badgers part ways
Craig Evans pledged to Wisconsin three different times during his recruitment.
But the four-star defensive tackle won't be signing with the Badgers on Wednesday. A 6-foot-3, 315-pound defensive tackle from Sun Prairie, Evans and head coach Gary Andersen recently had a discussion and came to an agreement to part ways, according to a source.
Instead, Evans will sign with Big Ten foe Michigan State after recently taking an unofficial visit to East Lansing.
While Evans maintains academics were not an issue, a source indicated otherwise.
"No problem," Evans said when asked about his grades in January. "I have to get my ACT score up to get eligible with the NCAA, but I don't think that will be a problem. I'm ready to go."
A Rivals250 prospect, Evans was the highest rated prospect in UW's 2014 recruiting class. He was expected to compete for time immediately at tackle in Wisconsin's 3-4 defensive scheme.
The Badgers are now expected to sign just three defensive linemen on Wednesday in tackle Jeremy Patterson and ends Conor Sheehy and Billy Hirschfeld.
Warren Herring, Bryce Gilbert and Arthur Goldberg are the only three tackles expected to take part in spring practice next month.
