Saban: Extension 'about being at Alabama'

Nick Saban hasn't heard all the theories.

"I don't have time for all that," he said on Saturday morning.

For any of those theories that had Saban, the head coach at Alabama, exploring a non-existent job opening at Texas, however, he had a response.

"I was never engaged or involved in anything connected with that," he said in a telephone interview from his UA office on Saturday morning. "Mack is still the coach at Texas, so there wasn't anything to talk about."

Later Saturday, Texas announced that Brown will resign after the Alamo Bowl against Oregon on Dec. 30.

Saban wrapped up the details of a raise and extension on Friday but said the timing was entirely independent of any outside situation.

"This was about being at Alabama," he said. "We have talked about it for a long time now. But I have been on the road recruiting since the season ended."
