Coaching updates: Nussmeier to interview at UW

Updated: Thursday 5:15 p.m. Per ESPN's Brett McMurphy, Doug Nussmeier will interview today for the vacant Washington head coaching position. Boise State's Chris Petersen will interview on Friday.

Wednesday 9 p.m. Doug Nussmeier is believed to be a top candidate for the head coaching vacancy at the University of Washington, along with Boise State's Chris Petersen, the Seattle Times is reporting.

The University of Alabama's second-year offensive coordinator spent three seasons as the Huskies' offensive coordinator from 2009-11.

Nussmeier's 2013 Crimson Tide unit is tied for 14th nationally in scoring offense with 38.8 points a game and ranks 36th in total offense with 448.9 yards per game.

Under his tutelege, quarterback AJ McCarron has totaled 5,609 yards passing with 56 touchdowns and eight interceptions while completing 67.4 percent of his passes. Nussmeier made $680,000 this season.

Petersen, who also had his name come up for Southern California's recently filled vacancy, is in his eighth season as head coach at Boise State, where he has compiled a 92-12 record and claimed at least a share of five conference championships. He won the Paul W. "Bear" Bryant Award in 2006 and 2009, given annually to the "coach of the year."
