Vinnie Sunseri out for season with knee injury

Safety Vinnie Sunseri is out for the season with a knee injury Alabama coach Nick Saban announced on Monday.

"Vinnie has done a great job for us, he's an outstanding player and a really good person, a good leader," Saban said. "I can't say enough about the job he's done throughout this year and his career."

Sunseri will have surgery on Tuesday. Saban would not specify what ligament was injured.

Sunseri left during the first quarter of Alabama's 52-0 win over Arkansas on Saturday night. He returned to the sidelines in the second half in street clothes.

Sunseri ranks seventh on the team with 20 tackles and leads the team in interceptions (2) and pass breakups (6).

Sophomore Landon Collins and junior Geno Smith are expected to play in Sunseri's place at strong safety. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who returned from a two-game suspension last week, will start at free safety.

Alabama takes on Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday.
