UW adds 2nd DeMatha standout
DeMatha High School in Maryland is expected to have at least 10 seniors sign with a Division 1 school this February.
Wisconsin will get two of those signatures as wide receiver Chris Jones announced Wednesday he would join teammate Taiwan Deal at Wisconsin next fall.
"I definitely think he'll (Jones) do well at Wisconsin," DeMatha head coach Elijah Brooks. "It's a big-time program with a winning tradition. He'll bring something to the program, a winning attitude and the ability to stretch the field as a receiver. With a new coach, I think it will be a good fit for them (Wisconsin)."
Jones, 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, had no less than 13 scholarship offers and trimmed his list to Wake Forest, Maryland, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Toledo and Boston College, according to Brooks, before his decision. He is a three-star recruit and the No. 58 receiver in the nation, according to Rivals.com.
"I'm excited and I've been waiting for this day for a long time," Jones said. "Me and coach Brooks have been talking about this for weeks and I'm excited to let it all out and I'm so glad that I finally committed."
Position coach Chris Beatty was the primary recruiter for Jones, who is Wisconsin's first wide receiver commit in the current class.
"Coach Beatty, the wide receivers coach at Wisconsin, has been contacting me everyday, calling coach Brooks about me, and I have a really good relationship with him over the course of a few months," Jones said. "I'm planning on going out there on Oct. 25 for my official visit. It's been exciting and I have a great relationship with them."
The Badgers are likely not done at the position and will host four-star wide out Jalen Brown officially this weekend. Jamil Kamara, Krenwick Sanders, Kenric Young, Emanuel Beal and Kadeem Goulbourne, among others, remain targets for the staff moving forward.
