Huskers land explosive east coast athlete
Demornay Pierson-El as he committed to the Huskers Saturday night. An explosive offense needs explosive playmakers and that's what Nebraska is getting in Alexandria (Va.) West Potomac athlete
The 5-foot-9, 174-pound Pierson-El plays several positions but has been targeted as a slot receiver by the Huskers. He made the trip to Lincoln for Nebraska's second annual Big Red Weekend and saw enough to commit to head coach Bo Pelini.
Pierson-El becomes the third commit of the day and the fifth in the past two days for Nebraska. He said there were a number of reasons that led him to end his recruitment.
"Yeah, I've committed to Nebraska," Pierson-El said. "I had a chance to talk to my parents, talk to my sister, and decided to make it official. I think highly of the school really like it. I really like the environment, I like the coaches, and I like the people around the football team, those that help. It's a real good football tradition and academics are well. I just generally enjoyed myself.
"The deciding factor though was just how comfortable they made me feel. I didn't feel any pressure and I didn't feel like they were trying to show off their previous stats or anything. It's just all about the school and they just stated my opportunity. Going to Nebraska I feel like I can better myself as an overall person on and off the field."
On Friday Nebraska received a commit from their top quarterback prospect Zack Darlington of Apopka, Fla. which also played a factor in Pierson-El's decision as did how the coaches plan to use him on the field.
"Yeah, the coaches talked a little about Zack committing," Pierson-El said. "It's exciting to be able to play with a guy like him. I know they were saying that he has a strong arm and will be able to get me the ball.
"Coach Fisher and Coach Beck also showed me how they plan on using me in their system. They have a lot of different things that they will be running. It was real fun to actually get to see it in person and know how they will use me."
Although Pierson-El has other offers he said he is totally committed to Nebraska and will not take any other visits.
"I'm 100% committed to Nebraska," Pierson-El said. "Tomorrow when I get back home me and my head coach are going to sit down and I'm going to call the other coach and tell them."
