B.J. Hill makes his choice
Despite admitting Sunday to The Wolfpacker that he grew up "a big Carolina fan," defensive lineman B.J. Hill of Oakboro (N.C.) West Stanly High spurned the Heels Wednesday and committed to their archrival in football - NC State.
Hill made the announcement amongst family and friends at a cookout Wednesday evening, and informed the NC State coaching staff this evening. He is NCSU's 10th verbal commitment and the eighth from the state of North Carolina.
Hill had a big weekend to set up his announcement. He camped at NC State on Friday night and then UNC on Saturday, and his performance was good enough to earn offers from both colleges, with both of them coming on Saturday. He had previously been offered by East Carolina.
Two days following earning offers from NC State and North Carolina, Hill made plans for his Wednesday announcement.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pounder will likely play defensive tackle at NC State. He has been a do-it-all athlete for West Stanly in the past, but his junior season was derailed by a dislocated knee that he suffered in the opening game against Norwood (N.C.) South Stanly High. He also has played basketball growing up, including stints on the Chris Paul All-Stars traveling team.
Hill was having a big game prior to his injury, rushing 21 times for 113 yards and a touchdown, catching two passes for 18 yards and having eight tackles (six solo) and a fumble recovery. Hill returned to play the final two games, piling up 13 tackles on defense and rushing for 81 yards on 34 carries and a score.
The Wolfpacker will have more on Hill's announcement later.
