Thomas to attend nine camps, eyes first offer
Jordan Thomas is about to rack up some serious frequent flier points.
The high 2-star Inderkum High junior will attend Cal's one-day Junior Camp on June 9th, then embark on an eight camp tour of the South and Midwest, with stops at Memphis, Tennessee State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Indiana, Kentucky, and Georgia Southern.
He knows college coaches want to see him at defensive back, and the former linebacker isn't going to make them wait until the Fall.
"It's a big position change he said, but they all say they want to see me as a DB because of my size," he said.
So, Thomas has been training with ex-NFL player C.J. Wallace (a former Washington Husky who played for the Chargers and Seahawks) as well as Washingotn State wide receiver signee Vincent Mayle, a JuCo transfer from Sierra Community College.
"I'm just trying to get that first offer," Thomas told GoldenBearReport this week. "You get that first one, and everyone else jumps in."
The 6', 186-pounder still says Cal is the favorite (his dad keeps in regular contact with the Cal staff), and he's clear about his intentions of one day becoming a Golden Bear, but knows he needs to build momentum.
He was at Cal's Junior Day and Spring Game, plus attended San Jose State's the morning of.
"I left it early," Thomas said of the SJSU visit. "Finished it up at Cal, had to finish with my favorite school."
Since he has taken an unofficial to Sacramento State to meet their coaching staff, and has new interest from Colorado State, Oregon State, and Memphis.
Thomas -- who just ran a personal-best 10.7 in the 100-meter dash -- is hoping that list of interested schools grows by the time he finishes his travel itinerary.
"All of them have seen my film," he said. "I really pushed for this."
