Tide women welcome Chattanooga
TUSCALOOSA | The University of Alabama women's basketball team (5-1) will host Chattanooga (6-1) at 2 p.m. today at Foster Auditorium. The game has been tabbed Dollar Day, with $1 admission and $1 nachos.
Assistant coach Clarisse Garcia will host a Chalk Talk session in the team's video room at 1 p.m., while players will be on hand after the game for an autograph session.
The Crimson Tide and Lady Mocs will be meeting for the first time in five years and 10th time overall. Alabama holds a 5-4 edge in the series. Chattanooga won the previous contest, 62-34.
Last time out, the Tide suffered its first loss of the season, falling 69-50 at Wisconsin in Alabama's lowest scoring game of the season. Despite the low-scoring performance, the Tide is still averaging 79.5 points per game while giving up 65.2.
Junior Shafontaye Myers continues to lead the team in scoring with 13.8 points per game, while Kaneisha Horn leads the team in rebounds with 6.2 per game. Sophomore Daisha Simmons checks in at No. 14 nationally in steals per game (3.83) and senior Meghan Perkins at No. 23 in steals (3.5). Myers' 3.17 3-pointers per game rank 14th.
Chattanooga is coming off an 83-40 rout of Furman in which the Lady Mocs shot over 50 percent from the field and held the Paladins to 12 points in the second half. Chattanooga has won two of its last three games, with the lone defeat coming by three points at Saint Mary's.
The Lady Mocs are led in scoring by junior Ashlen Dewart, who averages 14.3 points per game. She is followed by senior Kayla Christopher (13.7 ppg) and junior Taylor Hall (11.0 ppg). Chattanooga averages 75.9 points per outing, which is 19.3 points more than its opponents. The Lady Mocs are shoot 43.8 percent from the floor.
