TUSCALOOSA | University of Alabama gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson and softball coach Patrick Murphy both received raises Monday, which were unanimously approved by the compensation committee of the UA board of trustees.
Patterson's compensation jumped $30,000, increasing to $330,000 a year. Murphy's salary was raised $15,000 to bring his compensation to $240,000.
Murphy's compensation package includes a $200,000 base salary and $40,000 talent fee. Patterson's breakdown is $245,000 salary and $85,000 talent fee. She was also approved for a $12,000 expense account.
Murphy's deal was extended one year, through June 30, 2017. Patterson's contract was extended two years through June 30, 2018.
Murphy received a major raise last year after leaving to take the job as head coach at LSU and then changing his mind to return to UA, bumping his compensation at that time from $140,000 to $225,000. He delivered the 2012 national championship, coaching Alabama past Oklahoma in the best-of-three championship series at the Women's College World Series.
Also a year ago, Patterson's contract was extend by two years without a raise. Patterson has coached Alabama to six national championships, including back-to-back national titles in 2011 and '12.
Both coaches will be recognized for bringing national championships to UA at the Champions Plaza, which is scheduled to open next spring. The plaza will be named after Patterson.
