The 2012 Tidesports.com SEC Challenge

What is it?
A simple and fun fantasy football contest with a $1,000 grand prize including only players from the Southeastern Conference, and accessible only to subscribers of Tidesports.com.

How do I play?
Simply Click here and post your team on the SEC Challenge thread, along with a prediction (teams and score) for the SEC Championship game and a score prediction for the Iron Bowl. The SEC title game prediction will only be used if needed as a tiebreaker at the end of the season and the Iron Bowl prediction will be used as a secondary tie breaker if necessary.

What are the rules and what do I need to know?
1) You must choose exactly one quarterback, one running back, one wide receiver and one kicker from the options below for your team. If you fail to do so, your team is ineligible to compete.

2) You may not choose more than one player from the same school. That means, for instance, if you choose an Alabama quarterback, you may not choose another Alabama player at any position. If you do so, your team is ineligible to compete.

3) You'll notice that each player below is assigned a certain number of points. The point totals for the four players you choose for your team may not exceed a total of 25. If you pick a team that exceeds 25 total points, your team is ineligible to compete. All eligible players and their point values are listed below. Click each player's picture for a look at their career stats.

4) If you fail to submit a prediction (teams and score) for the SEC Championship game, and you end up in a tiebreaker for one of the prizes, you will automatically lose the tiebreaker.

5) To be eligible to win you must have an active subscription throughout the contest.

How is the game played?
Below you will see how all players will accumulate points during the regular season. Running backs, for instance, will get six points per touchdown (rushing or receiving), and one point per 10 yards rushing or receiving. At the end of the season, whichever Tidesports.com member's team has compiled the most points wins the contest. The next highest point total will win the second prize, and so on.

What can I win?
The grand prize for the winner is $1,000. The secondary prize structure for the winners is as follows:
2nd place) $250
3rd place) $150, a Tidesports.com merchandise package and a one-year subscription to Tidesports
4th place) $100 and a one-year subscription to Tidesports
5th place) Tidesports.com merchandise package

FAQ

Will Tidesports.com do anything to help me keep up with my team's points total from week to week?
Yes. Each week, the spreadsheet posted below will be updated to reflect each player's season-long, cumulative points. You can easily add your team's point total by checking the four players you choose each week and adding their points.

I'd like to play, but I don't want to spend all day picking a team. How can I do it quickly?
Simply click on the photos above, and you'll be linked to the Rivals.com bio page of that player, where you'll see his stats from last year to help you with your decisions.

What if one of my players is suspended, or injured, or does not play for any reason? Too bad. You're out of luck. If you think a player is injury prone, a disciplinary risk, or perhaps may not even win a starting job, you should consider that before choosing him. The Tidesports.com member who wins the $1,000 grand prize will almost assuredly have assembled a team that remained healthy and active all season.

Can I change my team once I've posted it?
This summer, yes, but not during the season. You can post on the thread as often as you'd like updating your team, and the most recent eligible team you post will be the one you compete with. However, at midnight on Monday, Aug.27, the week of the first game involving an SEC team (N.C. State vs. Tennessee in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic), the SEC Challenge thread will be locked and all eligible submitted teams will be final.

How will the SEC Championship Game tiebreaker work?
To win the tiebreaker, you must pick both division champions correctly, and pick the winner correctly. Among Tidesports.com members who pick the SEC Championship Game's participants and winner correctly, the member whose score prediction is closest to the actual score will win the tiebreaker, if needed.

Will Tidesports.com staff members compete also?
We may submit a team for fun, but we are ineligible for a prize. If a Tidesports.com staffer's team wins a prize, that team will be removed from the prize structure, with the next-best subscriber team moving up one spot, and so on. This is YOUR site, YOUR contest, and YOUR prize money.
