Coman coming to Big Dawg Camp
Kivon Coman has remained close to home. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back has spent the majority of his time working on his improvement to help aid his team's title aspirations in 2011.For much of July, Florence (Ala.) defensive back
"I have just been working hard to get better to help our team out," said Coman. "We want to get that state championship and we are supposed to be pretty good this year. But you can't talk about being good. You have to go do it and earn it and strive hard for what we want."
In recruiting, Coman currently holds offers from South Florida, Arkansas State and South Alabama. But after a strong showing at Mississippi State's camp earlier this summer, he is also drawing other interest.
"Mississippi State is showing me the most interest among those that haven't offered me yet," said Coman. "Things are going good with them. Their coaches just got back in their offices and they said an offer should be coming soon. I talk with Coach Geoff Collins almost every day and he tells me an offer could be coming soon.
"Then I am also getting letters from Southern Miss, Kentucky and also Ole Miss lately. Colorado and Ball State have also contacted me lately and Colorado said they really like me and want me to stay in touch with them."
And concerning the Bulldogs, Coman believes that offer could come next Friday at Big Dawg Camp, one of three visits scheduled for Coman this month.
"I think they want to see me again and will probably offer me at Big Dawg Camp," said Coman. "They are recruiting me as a cornerback and a little bit as a safety.
"We are also going to a team camp at Alabama A&M and then I am going to South Florida, not for camp but just for a visit."
If Coman were to get his first SEC offer next Friday, he said he would need some time to "figure" things out. He said he also hopes to remain teammates at the next level with his current Florence teammate and cousin Beniquez Brown.
"If Mississippi State does offer, I may wait just a bit to figure things out and make sure of whatever decision I make," said Coman. "I have always liked them since the ninth grade and I want to make sure I give all the schools an equal opportunity.
"Me and Beniquez still plan to go to the same school and we have to see how that works out. Whoever offers both of us is probably where we will go and that could be Mississippi State."
