While everyone in the nation seems to be focused on the turmoil at Ohio State with the coaching staff and the future of the program there is still work to be done and the Buckeyes received a large piece of good news on Tuesday afternoon when Bedford (Ohio) defensive back Tyvis Powell made his announcement public and committed to Ohio State.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pounder picked the Buckeyes over Michigan State and West Virginia but held double digit offers before narrowing it down to three schools.
Powell had mentioned in earlier interviews that the while the change at the top is unfortunate, that it doesn't change the business school at Ohio State or the quality of the education.
The Ohio State recruiting class now sits with eight players but it will be on new interim head coach Luke Fickell to keep all eight in place as schools look to poach Ohio State's early fortunate haul. Powell is the first defensive back in the class, a class that will need to replace three in the defensive backfield including one-year transfer Dionte Allen at corner.
