Scott appears set to enroll at South Alabama

TUSCALOOSA _ According to multiple sources, redshirt sophomore cornerback B.J. Scott is not on campus at the University of Alabama, and is apparently going through with his plans to transfer to South Alabama.

He played in six games this past season, with his final appearance against Tennessee when Scott made a late interception in the 41-10 victory. He was credited with six tackles for the year.

Rivals rated Scott, a five-start prospect out of Vigor High School, the No. 3 athlete (someone who could play more than more position) in the nation in 2008 and the third-best prospect in the state behind wide receiver Julio Jones and safety Mark Barron.

His true freshman year Scott lined up at wide receiver and played in nine games with two receptions for seven yards, the longest for seven yards from John Parker Wilson in the 41-30 victory at No. 3 Georgia. He moved to cornerback prior to spring practice in 2009 and then redshirted the subsequent season.

Scott went into fall practice working with the first unit at right cornerback, but was eventually beat out by true freshman DeMarcus Milliner, with junior-college transfer DeQuan Menzie winning the job at nickel back.

In late November Scott had season-ending surgery this week to repair an ankle injury "that has never really ever gotten any better over the last two or three weeks," Coach Nick Saban said. "I think it's a tendon issue. Since he hasn't responded, the only other way to do this is to fix it."

During practices for the Capital One Bowl, Scott rode an exercise bike and his player bio wasn't included in the bowl media guide.

A South Alabama official could not confirm the addition of any new players until all paperwork is completed and cleared by the compliance department. Classes for the spring semester begin Tuesday.
