Bolden excited to be an Eagle

It's been a wild ride for Gulf Coast (Perkinston, Miss.) CC prospect Kelvin Bolden. A long time commitment to Miss State had to follow his heart on signing day when he switched and signed with in-state rival Southern Miss.

"I knew I was going to switch a few weeks ago," Bolden said. "I didn't want to tell anyone because I didn't want it out there."

The talented pass catcher led the NJCAA in receptions and yards as a sophomore and looks to continue making big plays for the Golden Eagles.

"Fedora throws the ball," Bolden said. "There are gonna be plenty of balls to go around."

Bolden is also looking forward to reuniting with former team mates.

"It's gonna be fun to be back out there with DeAndre (Brown)," he said. "It'll be just like old times."

Another Ocean Springs Greyhound is expected to join them in Hattiesburg in the fall, Allen Howze a cousin of Brown's .

"DeAndre is a play maker, I'm a play maker, they're getting Steve (McNair) Jr., he's a play maker, Q (Quinton Pierce) is a play maker, Big Jondrick (Morris) is a play maker," he said. "People better get ready to see the 'Bomb Squad' shooting off some fireworks. "

Southern Miss is used to success on the field and that was one thing that seems to have factored into his decision making process.

"They're used to winning and going to bowl games," Bolden said. "Next year we ain't going to be close to winning the C-USA Championship, we're gonna be C-USA Champions!"

Bolden will graduate from MGCCC later this week and will enroll at Southern Miss in January.

Over the past few week Bolden had dropped by the Southern Miss campus several times on unofficial visits as the Eagles worked on preparations for the New Orleans Bowl. An official visit this past weekend seems to have helped seal the deal for the Eagles if there was any doubt left about where he would spend the rest of his collegiate career.

"I'm ready to get there and make it happen," he said. "Southern Miss To The Top!"

Southern Miss assistant head coach/offensive coordinator Darrell Wyatt was responsible for Bolden's recruitment.

Bolden joins four-star Itawamba (Fulton, Miss.) OT Lamar Holmes and three-star Arizona Western (Yuma, Ariz.) OT Jason Weaver as early signees for the Eagles.
