Gulf Coast receiver breaking out

Gulf Coast Community College sophomore wide receiver Kelvin Bolden likes the underdog role.

But after the numbers he has put up in his last two games that he may not be overlooked for long . The six-foot, 165-pounder has made 17 catches for 284 yards and six touchdowns in just the past two weeks.

Bolden caught 13 passes for 172 yards and three touchdowns in the Bulldogs 33-16 win over Southwest and grabbed four balls for 112 yards and three more scores last week in their 43-26 upset of previously No. 2 ranked East Mississippi.

"I had three touchdowns against Southwest and everybody said that was a fluke," Bolden said. "I had to come out and show myself against East Mississippi and I came out with another three touchdowns and over 100 yards."

Bolden set out to have a big game against the Lions last week and made things personal after EMCC rallied back 27-23 his freshman season. It also snapped a 10-game winning streak East Mississippi had over the Bulldogs.

"This was about revenge," Bolden said. "This boosted our confidence. We've got Pearl River this week so we've got to carry on and blow them out just like we did East Mississippi."

Bolden is currently in a three-way tie leading the state in scoring with 42 total points averaging 10.5 points per game.
