Vols making push for Hightower

The interest from other schools in Lewisburg, Tn. linebacker and Alabama commit Don'ta Hightower hasn't stopped.

But the interest by Hightower in those other schools has.

"The one school that is really still recruiting me hard is Tennessee," said Hightower, a four-star prospect that committed to the Tide this fall. "As a matter of fact, Coach Phil Fulmer came by the school on Monday to try and see me. I told my coach that I wasn't interested in talking to them, so they left.

"Part of it is that I am solid to Alabama obviously and am not really interested in talking to other schools. With Tennessee, I got turned off during my recruitment by them because many people were telling me that they would recruit me for one position, and then move you once you got on campus. I was already hearing a little of that from the coaches anyway. They told me I would be playing H-back, then they told linebacker later."

The Alabama coaching staff has told Hightower that he will be playing linebacker when he starts camp this fall.

"The Alabama scheme really appeals to me, because I like the middle linebacker role in the 3-4, and I can really play all four positions in that defense," said Hightower. "Alabama actually told me that I had the ability to play at any of the linebacker spots in their defense. It is just a real fun scheme because you can attack from anywhere in this defense."

Hightower has stayed in touch with at least one fellow Alabama commitment during the process.

"Chris Jordan and I talk all the time," said Hightower. "I found out that Alabama was recruiting Chris early on and we got in touch. As a matter of fact, we have been trying to arrange it so we can possibly be roommates once we get to Alabama, and I think there is a good chance of that happening.

"Coach (Curt) Cignetti came to Tennessee recently to see both of us. Coach Cignetti just talked to me about the paperwork I would be receiving on Signing Day, off-season workouts and just being prepared to come in and play. I think we really have a chance at having the top recruiting class in the country if we can snag a few more guys."

Hightower is Rivals' 15th-ranked inside linebacker nationally and the seventh-ranked player in the state of Tennessee.
