Junior Day leaves prospect impressed

Ole Miss Head coach Ed Orgeron put on quite a show at the 2007 Rebel Junior Day, leaving some quality first impressions with some of the local and regional prospects of the area.

Over 120 athletes from at least five states showed up in Oxford for an all day event. One prospect from the state of Tennessee left very impressed with Ole Miss. Lewisburg (TN) defensive end Don'ta Hightower was surprised by what he found in Oxford.

"I was pretty much amazed by the campus and facilities," Hightower said Saturday evening. "The Ole Miss coaching staff really stresses academics. They seem to be very interested in my grades now and the grades of all their players once they arrive on campus. That's always a good thing."

Ole Miss was the first official offer for Hightower last month and his first offer was something special for him.

"When I received the offer I got really excited," Hightower said. "I realized no matter what, even if I didn't get another offer, that this meant I could play football at the next level. I will always remember my first offer."

Another school that Hightower thinks is close to offering is the Tennessee Volunteers.

"They are acting like they are close to offering," Hightower said. "I expect several more offers before everything is said and done."

Hightower, a 6-foot-2, 245-pound athlete that runs a 4.8 forty, is expected to play defensive end at the next level.

"Right now everyone is recruiting me to play defensive end," Hightower said. "I love to attack the quarterback and make havoc of opposing offenses."

One person that made an impression on Hightower on Saturday was Coach Orgeron.

"I love his intensity, he seems like the type coach I would love playing for," Hightower said. "One word that he kept using all day was competing. I love to compete at everything I do. He explained to us that at Ole Miss everything was about competing at everything on a daily basis. Competing for a position, competing at whatever you do even if it's a board game."

Hightower apparently wasn't the only one impressed with the Ole Miss Junior Day.

"My mom really enjoyed herself," Hightower said. "The Ole Miss Coaches were very involved with my family the entire day. They really seemed like they wanted to get to my entire family, which was impressive."

Hightower has not ran a consistent forty yard dash as of yet, but runs around a 4.7. He has a bench max of 285 pounds and squat of 500 pounds.

He will take the ACT next month but doesn't expect any problems; Hightower currently has over a 3.05 G.P.A.
