Alabama gymnastics open season with rout of Missouri

The University of Alabama gymnastics team's quest for another national championship started off strong Friday night, as the Crimson Tide defeated Missouri 197.150 to 193.425 in Coleman Coliseum.

No. 2 Alabama outscored the Tigers on all four rotations, and had the highest season-opening score in school history.

"I'm very proud of our team," Alabama coach Sarah Patterson said. "I think that we've been to the point where we needed to compete. We really weren't going to get any better in practice. We just needed to get out there in front of a crowd, in front of some judges and under some pressure. And I think they really did a good job tonight."
