WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Alabama opens SEC play

The University of Alabama women's basketball team hosts No. 6 Kentucky in its Southeastern Conference opener at 2 p.m. today in Foster Auditorium.

The Crimson Tide (7-6) and Wildcats (12-1) will be meeting for the 40th time. Kentucky is one of three teams Alabama will play twice this season, along with Texas A&M and Auburn. The Wildcats lead the series 23-16 and have won eight of the last nine meetings. The Tide's lone win during that stretch came on Feb. 16, 2012, when Alabama stunned the seventh-ranked Wildcats, 77-75, thanks to 70 percent shooting in the first half.

Alabama closed out its nonconference schedule last week with a trip to Virginia's Cavalier Classic. The Crimson Tide went 1-1 at the tournament, losing 79-59 to Princeton before an 82-60 victory against Coppin State in the consolation game.
