Winchester on visit, host Trey Cheek, and the DBs in Cal's loss to tOSU

Count Cal commit Jeremy Winchester as one of the few people who actually liked what he saw from the Cal defense on Saturday.

The Texas-area defensive back took his official visit to Berkeley Friday-Sunday -- his first-ever trip to the Bay Area -- and watched the Bears fall to visiting Ohio State 52-34.

"I was watching the DBs, I wanted to see Coach Stew coach. Obviously the first 2-3 series weren't the best thing that could happen for the DBs, but sooner or later he ended up fixing that, and it ended up being a pretty good game," Winchester told GoldenBearReport on Monday night. "The DBs are young right now, they're still learning themselves. They made a few minor mistakes against the 4th best team in nation, which hasn't lost a game in two years -- I don't know why anyone wouldn't be surprised if they score on another team's mistakes. And Cal, they stay in it."

Winchester watched as both true freshman Cameron Walker and redshirt freshman Joel Willis were thrust into prominent rolls in the defensive backfield as the Bears outscored the Buckeyes 34-31 after falling behind 21-0 early.
