Spartans like Massachusetts standout

The state of Massachusetts is not on the normal recruiting path for Michigan State. However, when the staff recognizes a player they believe can help them win championships, geography i snot a fact. The is the case with defensive back Lubern Figaro of Everett High School. We have the details on his recruitment

Before becoming a Head Coach Mark Dantonio was not only a defensive backs coach, but he also played in the secondary for South Carolina. For that reason he takes pride in the fact that the Spartans consistently fielded one of the top units in the Big Ten. Part of that success is due to talent evaluation and the staff has identified Figaro as a player they believe has the skills necessary to compete at a high-level.

SpartanMag.com spoke with Figaro about his recruitment.

SM: What type of contact have you had from Michigan State University?

Figaro: Yes, I have had contact with them. I have talked to the defensive coordinator, the defensive backs coach and the Head coach. Coach Narduzzi and Coach Barnett came to my school last month.

SM: Your profile shows you have a solid list of scholarships. Has Michigan State offered?

Figaro: Yes, they have. I have 8 offers right now, Michigan State, Boston College, Massachusetts, Syracuse, UConn, Vanderbilt, North Texas and Old Dominion.

SM: What type of things have coaches said they like bout your game and what are your goals for the upcoming season.

Figaro: My strengths my ability to jam, I am athletic, I am physical and I have the ability to play more then one position. My goals for this upcoming season is to get better and win my 4th state championship.

SM: Michigan State doe snot recruit you area often, but obviously they are very interested in having you become part of the class of 2014. What are your thoughts on the Spartans and the possibility of playing in the Big Ten?

Figaro: Playing in the Big Ten would be great cause not a lot of kids in Mass get recruited by top schools like that and Michigan State is a great school. I just love the way they play defense and they were ranked top 5 in defense last year. Having that opportunity to play for a top school like that is a dream come true.

SM: I am sure that the staff is excited to have an opportunity to have you on campus, do you have plans to visit Michigan State sometime soon?

Figaro: Yes they have invited me, I think I'm heading over there sometime in August.

With offers from the Big Ten, ACC and SEC, Figaro's 2-star ranking is definitely low. We look for that ranking to be adjusted next time rivals.com, updates their rankings.Watching his film you can clearly see he is a ball-hawk who brings both speed and physicality to the table. Watching his film, it is no surprise that Michigan State is actively involved. SpartanMag.com will be sure to keep in contact with Figaro in the coming weeks.
