Marcus planning to visit

Since becoming one of the first prospects to receive an offer from Urban Meyer, the Ohio State coaching staff has continued to turn up the heat on Durham (N.C.) Hillside product Jamal Marcus. Now, the 6-foot-2, 219-pound linebacker is planning to make an official visit to Columbus to see what the Buckeyes have to offer.
"I haven't scheduled my visit yet," said Marcus. "I'm hoping to take one sometime towards the end of January. Once I get down there, they're going to specify (which linebacker position) they need me at."
Marcus met with assistant coach Luke Fickell last week at his high school. The visit was all positive according to Marcus.
"It was good," Marcus said. "I got a chance to get to know him and see what he's all about. He talked about the things that they are trying to bring into the program next year and he said they lost like seven linebackers (over the last year) so they are trying to bring some more in."
While everything went well with Fickell, Marcus is hoping to speak with Meyer at some point. As of early Monday evening, the two had not yet spoken but that is certain to change sooner rather than later.
"I'm supposed to talk to Urban Meyer soon," he said. "Hopefully I'll get to see how he is and everything and what he's trying to do with the program."
With the recent offer and subsequent attention the Ohio State staff has shown Marcus, it comes as no surprise that the Buckeyes now sit among his top group of schools.
"Right now they sit very high," he said. "Florida, North Carolina, Auburn, and East Carolina (are also high on the list)."
Marcus said he doesn't have any visits coming up in the near future as he is taking part in the Shrine Bowl, an all-star game featuring the best players from North Carolina against the best players from South Carolina.
"I'm at the Shrine Bowl right now so I don't really have anything else coming up (in the immediate future)," he said. "We just had our first practice today so it's going pretty good, we looked good out there."
