The latest class of 2012 prospect to receive an offer from Ohio State is Lakeland (Fla.) wide receiver Ricquan Southward. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound prospect has come out of nowhere this season after having to wait his turn at the talent-loaded powerhouse.

"I was excited actually," said Southward of the offer. "It's a big step in my career towards going to college so I'm very excited. Their coaches were trying to get a hold of me so my coach said to call them and they offered me over the phone."

Southward talked to Ohio State wide receivers coach Stan Drayton on Tuesday night and is hoping to make it to Columbus in the near future for an official visit.

"We talked last night and they're trying to get me up there on November 19th when they play Penn State," he said.

Southward has certainly made the most of his opportunity this season and credits much of his success to film study.

"A lot of it has just been studying the game," he explained. "I just watch film and study the players that came before me and just learn from them."

Mississippi is the only other school to extend an offer to Southward at this point and the athletic receiver is also reporting serious interest from Florida and Miami (FL). Southward commented on the two schools that have offered as well as the two programs that could be next to do so.

On Florida - "I'm a Gator fan but that's not going to change my decision on where I go (to college), just because I like the Gators."

On Miami (FL) - "I know that Miami has a good program. Their coaches have been talking to me and calling me the past few weeks wanting to get me down there for a game. I'm excited to go down there."

On Mississippi - "I don't know too much about Ole Miss. I'm going to try and get a trip scheduled so I can go up there and see what they're about."

On Ohio State - "I've never been to Ohio State so I want to get up there and see the campus. I'm probably going to go up there because I've been talking to their coaches and they need another receiver."

Though near the end of his senior season, Southward is still in the early stages of his recruiting process and isn't naming any leaders.

"I'm wide open," he said. "I'm just trying to go to college and get a free education and play football somewhere."

Southward added that he is working on setting up official visits with Miami (FL) and Mississippi and that he would like to make his college choice before Christmas.
